Good question. I guess you could all blame one man: Andrew Cassidy. But more about that later. Admittedly, I've always wanted to run my own tournament, and Ratboy was suffering from similar urges. So, we got to thinking (Yes, a scary concept indeed). If we were to launch a new tournament, how would we differentiate ourselves from all the other cool tourneys in Melbourne? I asked myself the following question: what do I enjoy most about tournaments? Three main points bubbled to the surface.

1. All the cool armies that people bring along. I personally love checking out people's armies, everything from painting, selection and especially the fluff and theme behind an army.
2. Competitive games. Yep, playing against experienced opponents that know their rules and have flawless tactical abilities is mega-enjoyable.
3. The general atmosphere of a tourney. You know, the general buzz leading up to a tourney and the whole vibe of the gig really spikes my enthusiasm gauge.

So, we came up with Liber Animus (40k version of the 'Book of Grudges'). Now, the name in itself is important. There is nothing cooler than having a good, healthy grudge with a few of your fellow tournament players. This is where Andrew Cassidy comes into the whole explanation. I've only ever played two or three games with Andrew, but every game has been an absolute ripsnorta™! A well-painted army, with cool fluff, a solid army list and the games have always been close and tense. All the while being a pleasure to play against (granted, he scares the bejesus out of me!). We have a healthy respect for each other's abilities and are always keen to play each other again. I wanted a tourney that comprised of nothing but these types of games.

The true spirit of Liber Animus is a tournament full of competitive and enjoyable games with your peers. This is Liber Animus! A hand picked group of players that Ratboy and myself believe will make Liber Animus a success.

Grudges will abound, old ones rekindled or new ones created.
